Recent changes to the Control of Weapons Regulations 2025 (Vic) have classified machetes as prohibited weapons in Victoria. At this stage, machetes are not included under the Guild’s current exemption, which covers swords, daggers, bayonets, and other historical edged weapons. Members are therefore not permitted to possess or collect machetes unless they hold a Chief Commissioner’s Approval or another valid exemption (such as for occupational use). The Guild is reviewing the changes and will update members if machetes become covered under the exemption in future.
